Es Lo Que Hay Garnacha 2011
Rich red black. Concentrated cherry jam and aromatic herbs fill the bouquet and it’s ripe and juicy in the full-bodied palate where the flirty high alcohol is immediately heady. It’s crammed with ripe, juicy, succulent blue and red fruits with a touch of graphite and iodine in behind and the finish is incredibly long with firm grunty tannins taking command. ‘Es lo que hay’ means ‘it is what it is’ and it definitely created a buzz around the room. Steve says this unoaked red will live 30 or 40 years but as it is unfined and unfiltered, expect the bottle to throw a huge amount of sediment.
