Roth Estate Chardonnay 2014
The bouquet is initially all about restraint. There’s an intriguing oily character – hair oil maybe – and then peaches and cream. Initially quite citrussy in the palate then fattening up nicely with a touch of butterscotch together with peach, nectarine, vanilla and nutty oak and the finish is warm, rich and rounded with a touch of spice. From a cooler coastal-influenced site and aged in French and Hungarian oak, this fascinating chardonnay is not what we expect from Cali and definitely oozes class.
