Baptistes Boutes Minervois 2014

This dark berry red-hued wine has an interesting, intriguing and evolving bouquet that evokes a subtle suggestion of leather, a touch of salinity, dried herbs, country paddocks, perhaps a nuance of ironstone, boiled red lollies and later even a hint of liquorice. Medium-bodied in palate weight, it is ripe and juicy with abundant berry flavours and some very gratifying mint nuances but also quite meaty wine in some respects with bacon, mushroom and mocha adding to the intrigue, tannins lurking in the background and a touch of graphite infusing the finish. A fascinating value-packed wine made from a blend of Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache; winelovers will enjoy the complexity while easy drinkers will enjoy the juicy generosity.
